Every song is exceptionally dull.

Posted : 18 years, 1 month ago on 26 September 2006 02:26 (A review of Every Day Is Exactly The Same)

Most Nine Inch Nails fans are familiar with Trent Reznor's penchant for filling the lengthy gaps between his albums with numerous singles. Now, don't read that as some kind of lazy attempt at an insult; some of my favorite Nine Inch Nails releases are in fact singles. Unfortunately, I can't count Every Day is Exactly the Same among them.

Why not? Of course your mileage may vary, but I just didn't consider the songs off of With Teeth a strong enough foundation upon which to build a tower of remixes. The enjoyable aspect of a successful single, for me at least, is in listening to some already excellent songs being ripped apart and put back together in interesting new ways, sometimes leading to something even greater than the source material itself. But this time around the original songs were only able to generate a lukewarm response from me in the first place, and, sadly, the remixed versions did little to alter that.

I did enjoy the Photek Straight Mix of “The Hand that Feeds,” but that may be because it’s little more than an extended version of the original song, which I personally considered one of the stronger tracks off of With Teeth. What’s left are four other remixes that I didn’t particularly care for, and the original album version of “Every Day is Exactly the Same,” which you most likely have already heard a thousand times if you’re reading this.

Unless you’re one of those collectors who are hell bent on owning every Nine Inch Nails release (and I know you’re out there) I suggest giving this one a pass.

Bobby must have lost a bet.

There I was at Wal-mart, rooting through a big pile of cheap movies looking for an inexpensive way to waste an evening. After tossing aside probably a dozen copies of "Wagons East" I stumbled across this little gem. A De Niro flick I had never heard of, and only $5.00 to boot? Of course I had to buy it.

I am not exaggerating in the least when I say that actually lighting those five dollars on fire and watching them burn would have been more worthwhile. Well, maybe that's a little harsh. I mean, this movie is kind of amusing when you've been drinking. I don't mean the "Hee Hee, I've had two whole Zimas" kind of drinking, either. I mean the "sprawled out in front of the toilet, praying for a death that you know isn't coming tonight" kind of drinking. You know what I'm talking about.

So, yeah, this is pretty awful movie. That's not even a relevant picture of De Niro on the cover.

"In case the title doesn't explain clearly enough, this is a list of all of the games that I completed over the course of 2006. Don't bother telling me how small this list is and how disappointing I am"
